Late Night Ramblings

1-2-3 GO as Bones would say! But she didn't, 'cause she's asleep! Or at least I think she is... I dunno~

Do you guys ever just, like, stay up and think about things? Not even on purpose, though. Just, like, as you're falling asleep and you lay there in the dark and suddenly you have everything figured out. All that shit that's messing with your life? You suddenly know exactly how to fix it.

Or you just understood that joke your friend told at the bar - wasn't it funny? HAHAHAHA ohmygods you're such an idiot how did you not get that earlier?

Or you suddenly have the motivation to lose that ten pounds you were technically supposed to have lost before swimsuit season started. Running sounds like a great idea! Let's set the alarm so we can get up early and go for a run and beat the oppressive heat that is July in the Midwest! But really, let's be honest you'll probably hit snooze 50 million times so there's no point in getting up that early. Motivation gone.

Or you spend the next hour thinking about how exactly awesome Harry Potter really was - IS - and how if you ever have kids they are totally reading that shit. Except you're gunna read it to them, like your dad read it to you, with different voices and everything. So you start practicing your Dobby voice, making it different from your Moaning Myrtle voice, which is different from your Malfoy voice (although book two they sound strangely similar, you discover), which then in turn is different from the noises you make for Aragog.

Or you ponder if souls really are reincarnated. And if they are, how old is your soul? Are you a new soul? Or have you been around for a really long time? You don't really feel that old but you do have more patience than most of your peers. Maybe that's a you thing? Or maybe the weird dreams you've been having lately are memories of your past life or even glimpses of your future life. The future has flying fish-motorcyles?

You suddenly have the BEST IDEA for a book. Where the hell do you keep your pens. Gods, there was one right here when you turned the light off. Stupid trolls. Better have stayed away from your socks, even though you wear them mismatched for that sole purpose. Seriously though, PEN WHERE DID YOU GO?!

You review conversations in your head from a week ago. You were so clever in that pro-feminist argument against that one guy in line at the grocery store. Except your comeback against your brother was really juvenile after he criticized your cooking skills again. Mental note: work on comebacks.

You scroll through random shit on your phone, suddenly very concerned with the bee population. Bees are really important. They're what scientists call an "indicator species" which mean that they help determine if environments are suitable to live in. If lots of bees die, that means everything else will die soon too. Protect the bees!

You watch three episodes of Courage the Cowardly Dog on your laptop because, holy shit, you haven't seen that show in forever! Man that brings back memories. Wonder if the cat episode is easy to find. Oooo or the gangster foot one! Yikes or the creepy king Tut one.

You start to crave a vanilla ice cream cone with LOTS of sprinkles. The rainbow kind - not the chocolate. But like soft serve ice cream and the really really good stuff too. Like Mr. Softy's from New York. The kind that tastes like you're licking a cloud. Not that you would actually know what a cloud tastes like, but you've got a good imagination and you're willing to bet money that it tastes like a Mr. Softy's vanilla ice cream cone.

You wonder over the correct grammar of the word physics. Is it plural? Or singular? Can it just be physic? Or is it always physics with an s?

And then you wake up the next morning totally hating yourself and your brain for being so stupid as to not actually fall asleep on time. And really, who thinks about these things anyways?

Earworms suck...

(Prepare yourselves. I'm bored and now have the means to ramble).

So sometime last week - possibly Thursday - Bones and I were hanging out, as we do, with some of our comrades. Just lazing about, having a grand ol' time doing whatever we pleased, when suddenly, a wild Bones' boyfriend appeared! (He was already there, but for plot's sake just imagine he popped up.) Being a music major - I think, at least, pretty sure that's what he does - he automatically sits down at the piano, which was conveniently placed in the vicinity, and begins to play a melody. After a couple of bars, he proudly tells us he's figured out how to play AWOLNATION's "Sail" and then proceeds to play the song. The entirety of it.

And it's been stuck in my head ever since.

It's Monday night. I haven't seen this kid since Wednesday, Thursday, whatever the hell day that was. But since that day this song has been haunting me.

Playing at work

On my favorite station in my truck

In the mall

At the movies

On a commercial on TV

My cousin humming it

IT'S FRAKKING EVERYWHERE.

So obviously the only solution is to either A) listen to it and dislodge the earworm or B) shut myself off from any source of mainstream music sources.

I did both. Neither are working.

The thing is, it's not a particularly enjoyable song for me. Ok, yeah kinda catchy and the blaring of the, what? Bass? Guitar? I have no idea what's making that sound, is kinda neat, BUT IT'S FRAKKING ANNOYING! So the fact that it's just in my head for the entire weekend is driving me up the frakking wall.

So here we are Monday night, and what am I doing? Sitting alone, in our home, waiting for Bones to come home from her jazz thingy, eating Chips and Salsa for dinner because it's 10:30 and I can't cook, and blaring the stupid song on repeat. And it will be on repeat until Bones comes home so she can revel in my misery with me.

Which now that I think about it, I actually have no idea when that will be...

... It's gunna be a looooong night
